Holy Name Nature Club decided to hold an exhibition titled “Care for Creation” to show solidarity with the planet that is our only home. They wanted the message to be spread that global warming is actually “Global Warning”. What better day than 15th August 2010!
Our Principal, Fr. Michael Pinto, wanted this ‘exhibition to make a difference’ as this peril is not of God’s making, but of ours; not of Divine conduct, but of human misconduct. Through this exhibition we wanted to share our vision of a different way of treating our earth and thus making it a better place to live in. Each standard, from K.G to Xth had a theme. This itself showed that each one of us can make a contribution to the cause and thus make a difference to the earth.
Starting with the K.G. stall on ‘Food Fundas’ where different food items were on sale. They spread the message ‘you are what you eat’.
Std. I was a treat to the eyes and an experience to appreciate as the “Beastly Tales” were enfolded. The tiny tots dressed as animals enlightened the visitors and spoke about the hardships experienced as their habitats are being encroached upon by intelligent animals called humans.
Std. II made us take a walk through ‘Plant Paradise’. They stressed on Go Green! Plant a Sapling!!
Std. III showcased ‘Wealth out of Waste’. The numerous articles made out of waste were a sight to behold. Their message was today’s waste is tomorrow’s wealth.
Std. IV highlighted simple and effective nature’s remedies as they worked on the theme ‘Heal at Home’. They stressed on the importance of kitchen gardening.
Std. V worked on ‘Friendly not frenzied festivals’. Their stall promoted the use of homemade colours for rangolis and holi, immersion of clay Ganpati in a bucket at home etc. They also spoke about how to celebrate festivals in an ecofriendly manner.
Std. VI worked on the theme ‘Pollution: Pains and Perils’. Octopus Paul forecasted the condition of earth in the year 2050, if we do not take a stand now to save Mother Earth. The various ways to bring down pollution was explained through their project. They sent out the message that we are turning resources into waste faster than waste can be turned back into resources, thus depleting the very resources on which human life and biodiversity depend.
Std. VII exhibited a sustained township which highlighted the theme “Conserve and Care’. They showed the use of various renewable energy sources. Their message was proper use of resources and concern for the environment will help create a better world for us and for the generations to come i.e. Use today for tomorrow.
Std. VIII exhibited the use of vermicompost and organic foodstuffs as they worked on the theme ‘Reviving Nature for Future’. Their strongly worded message was Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Std. IX literally put earth on props as they worked on ‘Global Warming, a ticking time bomb’. They showcased how the warming of earth has created havoc and what can be done to help earth revive. Their message was very aptly put, ‘You be the change to see the change’.
Std. X depicted ‘Health and Hygiene’ wherein they spoke about the increasing carbon footprint which deteriorates the health of the earth and life thereon. They used games, song, charts etc. to put forth their point on how to reduce the carbon footprint. Their message was “Realize, Minimize, Neutralize”
The visitors were awed as they went around seeing the exhibits. They wrote that the exhibition was a runaway success with creativity at its height. They congratulated the Principal, Teachers, Students, Parents and all who helped put up this exhibition for the team spirit, hard work, dedication and talents galore.
We felt that the exhibition, as envisioned, did create a difference. HNHS has taken a step to save Mother Earth. They have pledged their support on the ‘Tree of Life’ on our website at HolyNameHighSchool.in.
